In March 2008 a Safari Supper organised to raise funds for play area equipment at the village hall began with the performance of a short play written by local playwright Rod Hancox. Following that, talk progressed on doing a larger scale performance and in Summer 2009 two short Ayckbourn plays, Between Mouthfuls and Gosforth’s Fete were performed in the garden of Oakfield House. All involved were then keen to pursue the setting up of an Amateur Dramatics group and HATS, Hatch Amateur Theatre Society, was born.

Recent productions in addition to well known Alan Ayckbourn plays have included Outside Edge by Richard Harris and pieces by local writers. The Society has performed once a year in the summer – outdoors (weather permitting) with food and a bar resulting in a really happy evening for the audience and for us!  We also get involved with other village social activities and are a well established part of village life.New members are always welcome – previous acting experience is not necessary – just enthusiasm! We are always seeking not only actors but also anyone with practical skills who could join our very important backstage crew or people who would like to help with the bar or catering.

We have a lot of fun – why not come along and join us? For more information, please call Gill Derbyshire on 01823-480767 or oasthouses at aol com
